Frequently Asked Questions

The 5-day course includes 40 hours of hands-on clinical training with real patients at our Hampden, Maine location, plus a required virtual didactic session the Thursday before training week covering common conditions, scope of practice, cold sterilization, and charting. You’ll receive a full professional foot care toolkit worth more than $600, a training manual with protocols, and lunch each day. We also cover business basics such as pricing and startup forms, and you’ll leave with a Certificate of Completion and ongoing access to our peer network and mentorship.

Our training is built by nurses who left hospital nursing for foot care themselves, so it’s shaped around the real challenges of that transition rather than theory alone. Classes are capped at five nurses, so you work hands-on with real patients under direct supervision instead of competing for practice time. Alongside clinical technique, we teach the business side, pricing, forms, and how to start seeing clients, and you keep access to mentorship from our team after training ends.

The program is open to registered nurses and licensed practical nurses. Before attending, you’ll need 15 continuing education credits in foot care, which we recommend completing through Rainier Medical Education or AFCNA. LPNs should confirm the scope-of-practice rules in their state, since LPNs need clinical oversight from an RN, nurse practitioner, podiatrist, or physician to provide this care independently.

Our training is built around U.S. nursing licensure and the certification requirements set by AFCNA and WOCNCB, so eligibility for nurses licensed outside the U.S. depends on your specific credentials. Contact us directly with your licensing background and we can let you know whether the program is a fit.

You’ll receive a Certificate of Completion documenting your 40 hours of hands-on training, which counts toward the experience requirement for national certification. The certification itself is granted separately by the American Foot Care Nurses Association (AFCNA) or the Wound, Ostomy and Continence Nursing Certification Board (WOCNCB) once you’ve met their combined requirements for clinical hours, continuing education, and their national exam.

We don’t currently run a separate advanced course, but graduates keep access to our peer network and ongoing mentorship as questions come up in practice. For additional continuing education after certification, we point our nurses to Rainier Medical Education, led by Dr. Julia Overstreet, DPM, for further CE credits and exam prep.

Enrollment details, including how payment is handled, are worked out directly with our team. Contact us through the registration page and we’ll walk you through current pricing and payment options for your course date.

Training prepares you to add foot care services to your current nursing role or start your own practice, full-time, part-time, or as a side business alongside other work. Rising rates of diabetes, vascular disease, and an aging population are increasing demand for foot care, and graduates use the skill to bring in additional income, build client relationships through recurring visits, and set their own schedule rather than working shifts.
